Hi! I’m Kate Tribe. I create hand embroidered contemporary artworks, mainly using cross stitch as my medium. I’m based in Southern Highlands, NSW where I can draw inspiration from nature, travel, and urban landscapes.
I started to cross stitch when I was in single digits and one of my earliest jobs was at a craft shop, where I regularly returned my pay to the store. Over the decades, I’ve gone from pattern follower, to experimenter, then creator, and artist.
My art represents the activity of life. I visually solve problems and these works are also a representation of that process. The artwork is improvised while I stitch, they tell a story via colour and shapes to create a hypnotic space to get lost in.
