The ‘Transitions‘ series features work completed during transitional periods in life. It includes pieces that do not follow the themes of other works. This piece was stitched during COVID. It explores patterns using variant threads different from the ‘Commuter Life‘ series. It visually shows how our space to explore was confined during that time.
Creation Process
This work’s concept was to continue using variant threads but a new approach. It was started in May 2020, when commuting wasn’t a feature of our lives.
Stitching started in the middle and looped in sections, leveraging the thread’s variant nature. This approach created an interesting design.
Exhibition History
It was part of my solo exhibition, Life Activity, at Community Bank Darling Square Sydney in 2024. Life Activity featured 19 original works and 12 limited-edition prints.
It is participating in Wingecarribee Shire Council’s Arts Trail Atrium Exhibition during November 2024.
Artist artwork statement
This work is about exploring small spaces. Covid allowed us to find every corner of what was nearby. A deeper understanding of local surroundings and connection to community.
Life is local. Designed for safety. It can be constraining or comforting.
